Speaking — las 4 partes

2 candidatos · 2 examiners (uno habla = interlocutor, otro puntúa = assessor).

Se puntúa igual en todas: Grammar & Vocabulary · Discourse Management · Pronunciation · Interactive Communication

Part 1 — Interview

Responde desarrollado (no «Yes, I do»): da un motivo o un ejemplo. Objetivo: soltura, no perfección.

0:30

1Responde + por qué: Yes, I do, because
2Añade un ejemplo/detalle: For example, last weekend I… · Something I really enjoy is…
I'd say…to be honest… what I like most is…it depends on… for instance…at the moment I'm …ing

Diana: present continuous para lo actual (I'm studying / working), NO present simple. Y enjoy / like + -ing.

Frases modelo — tu ciudad, familia y estudios/trabajo

Where you live
I like living here because we have the best of both worlds — the sea and the mountains with a forest. There are a lot of social things to do, like a wide variety of restaurants and bars, and it's also a very peaceful town.
Your family
Half of my family lives … and the other half lives … . My mum lives very close to me and my brother lives in London. My mum likes to spend time on her own, working in and around her garden, while my brother has a young spirit, so he likes going to different festivals.
Studies & work
At the moment I'm doing both: I'm studying at an online university to get my degree in Data Science, and at the same time I run my own company, where we provide AI services for other businesses.

English for your future
English is not only important but also necessary for my future career, because the top companies are based in the USA and the UK — and I can see myself working there one day.

Artículos: the USA, the UK (no in USA and UK). Paralelismo: not only important but also necessary.

Relaxing / free time
I have a couple of ways to relax after a busy day, but lately I like spending time with my wife doing simple things that are important to me, because we're both very busy during the week. We'll usually cook together or go out for an ice cream by the beach.

Presente habitual: we'll / we usually cook (no we would cookwould = hábito pasado). during the week (no during the days). Orden: simple things that are important.

Part 2 — The Long Turn

2Especula el porqué (modal+be+-ing): they might be …ing because… · it looks as if… · perhaps they prefer…
3Cose con contraste: On the other hand… · In contrast
4Remata: So, on the whole, both are just different ways of… · Personally, I'd rather

Tus dianas — no las dejes caer
  • Doble sujeto NO: The first woman has (no the woman, she has).
  • Persona ≠ it: he/she is doing (no it's doing).
  • Especular = modal + be + -ing: might be studying (no might to study).
  • love / enjoy + -ing · prefer A to B (nunca than).
  • Artículos: in the gym, at a conference.

Part 3 — Collaborative Task

Proponer / abrir
Shall we start with…?How about…?Let's look at…What do you think about…?
Pedir su opinión / turnarse
What's your view?Do you agree?And you? / How about you?Would you say…?
Reaccionar / matizar
That's a good point, but…I see what you mean, however…I'm not so sure, because…Exactly! / Absolutely.
Decidir
So, shall we go for…?I think we both agree that…Let's say…, then.

Part 4 — Discussion

In my opinion…It seems to me that…I'd argue that…On the one hand… on the other…It depends on…That's true to some extent, but…

Diana: condicionales — if people had more time, they would; y would have + V3 para el pasado hipotético.
